April 26, 2016

Naples -  Richard W. Fogg, 90, of Edes Falls Rd., passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 while surrounded by his loving family. He, and his twin, Rilla, were born on July 29, 1925 in Harrison, Maine to Elmer and Mary (Lewis) Fogg, the 4th and 5th of 10 children.
Richard spent a mischievous childhood on the Fogg Farm in South Harrison with his parents and 9 siblings. He attended school as a child in a one-room schoolhouse in South Harrison where he and his classmates planted two pine trees they named George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The trees still stand today. He later attended Bridgton High School.
In 1944 he married Florence "Alice" Knight, and they spent most of their 71+ years together at their home in Edes Falls in Naples. He and Alice raised their children in Edes Falls and took pride in teaching them the importance of hard work and honesty.
A well respected member of the community, Richard worked for many years as a woodsman and foreman at Flagg Lumber Company. He later ran his own logging company for many years. He always enjoyed spending time in the woods. He was known by many as the man to ask about local property lines and corner posts. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed digging and collecting antique bottles, of which he had an impressive collection with a story attached to each bottle. He enjoyed local history, including any old or historic item, such as post cards, photographs or automobiles. He loved to tell stories about the cars he had owned as a young man and his adventures in them. He also enjoyed gardening, always proud of his weed-free garden. A highlight, for him, was an annual family birthday cookout at the Fogg home in Edes Falls. He was an elder and faithful member at the Bridgton Alliance Church, which was a big part of his life, for many years.
He leaves behind his wife, Alice, a daughter, Ellen and her husband Kevin, sons, Jack and his wife Colette, Robert and his wife Christy, Danny and his wife Noreen, and Robert Vaughan, who they raised from age 5. He also leaves behind sisters, Barbara and twins Marjorie and Madelyn, plus many grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends and relatives who will miss him dearly.
He was predeceased by his parents, his twin Rilla and siblings Raymond, Evelyn, Dorothy, Virginia and David.
Visiting hours will be held from 6-8pm Friday, April 29, at Hall Funeral Home in Casco. A  11am funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 30 at the Bridgton Alliance Church. Both services will be open to all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bridgton Alliance Church, 368 Harrison Rd. Bridgton, ME 04009.
